Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre
Choreographer Samar Haddad King, playwright and theater director Amir Nizar Zuab, and members of Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre (NYC/Palestine) will work collaboratively on The Keeper, a work exploring humanity’s relationship with land as it relates to human survival, culture, and identity, and as a source of political conflict.

Samar Haddad King
Samar Haddad King is the Artistic/Founding Director of Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre, based between New York and Palestine. King graduated cum laude in choreography from the Ailey/Fordham BFA program in New York under the tutelage of Kazuko Hirabayashi.
Her work has since been commissioned by companies throughout the U.S and Arab World, including Hubbard Street 2 (Chicago, USA), where she was the recipient of the National Choreography Competition; Palest’In & OUT Festival (Paris, France), where she was recipient of the Prix des Jeunes Créateurs Palestiniens pour la Diversité des Expressions Artistiques award; and the Palestinian Museum (Birzeit, Palestine). She frequently lectures on her work in the Arab World, most recently at the TanzKongress (Hanover, Germany), University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA), Dance Research Forum Ireland (New York, NY), Columbia University Center for Palestine Studies (New York, NY) and Fordham University (New York, NY). She recently curated a program with the A.M. Qattan Foundation that culminated in a series of dance performances in public spaces throughout Palestine in December 2017; and co-authored a chapter with Sandra Noeth published in January 2018 for the 2nd edition of Contemporary Choreography published by Routledge.
Amir Nizar Zuabi
Amir Nizar Zuabi (co-creator/director/playwright for The Keeper) is an award winning theater writer & director, an associated director of Young Vic London, and a member of the United Theaters Europe for artistic achievement.
Writing and directing credits include I am Yusuf and This is my Brother, In the Penal Colony, Alive From Palestine, Oh My Sweet Land, The Beloved (all co-produced by ShiberHur/Young Vic) Azza (European Premiere-Bozar), West of Us the Sea, Mid Spring Musical, Dry Mud (ShiberHur), and Against A Hard Surface (Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre). Directing credits include: Samson and Delilah (Flanders Opera, Antwerp) Jidarriya by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish (Edinburgh International Festival, Bouffes du Nord and world tour), Forget Herostratus, le Mallade Imaginer, War or More, Sneeze, Deep Sorrow, Fall Tale, When The World Was Green, Lanterns Of The King Of Galilee, Taha, and Comedy of Errors (Royal Shakespeare Company). Currently Zuabi is writing a play for the National Theatre London.
