Rose Bond, an animator, will collaborate with Roomful of Teeth, a vocal band, and inti figgis-vizueta, a composer, each pushing at the edges of their prescribed mediums. Together, they seek to create an original, tri-screen performance piece that amplifies new voices.
Special thanks to The Princess Grace Foundation, Linda Blackaby, Roomful of Teeth, Inti figgis-vizueta, Zak Margolis, and Steve Farris.
Rose Bond creates work at the juncture of expanded cinema, experimental animation, and experiential design. Her large-scale animated installations navigate the allegories of place and illuminate urban space with fragments of the often overlooked – the ‘other’. Her current project, a new interdisciplinary collaboration with composer inti figgis-vizueta and Roomful of Teeth, pushes the experience of projection and live performance into new territory.
Recent work includes multi-screen projections for avant-garde composers Olivier Messiaen‘s Turangalîla-Symphonie, 2016 and Luciano Berio’s Sinfonia, 2020. Other animated installations include: two pieces for the permanent collection at the Portland Chinatown Museum, 2018; Illumination No.1 reprise at Portland’s Old Town Society Hotel, 2014; a prototype for a media installation in the Smithsonian’s Arts & Industries Building, 2012; Broadsided! at Exeter Castle, 2010; Intra Muros, shown during the 2007 Platform International Animation Festival and reprised for the Holland Animation Film Festival, Utrecht, 2008, and Nuit Blanche, Toronto 2011. Bond’s paint-on-film animated films have been presented at major international festivals and are held in the MoMA Film Collection. She has received honors from the American Film Institute, The Princess Grace Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Rose Bond is a Canadian born media artist based in Portland, Oregon.
