Director Lily Whitsitt (NYC) returns to BAC following her 2016 BAC Residency to continue work on THIS IS THE COLOR DESCRIBED BY THE TIME, a fractured journey through Gertrude Stein's daily routine in France during World War II. The piece examines Stein's forgotten politics and raises questions about the inextricable link between the political, personal, and artistic.
Lily Whitsitt is founding director of Door 10 performance group and a director and producer of theater and film. Her work has been presented at Here Arts Center, Jack, NYU, Wesleyan University, California Institute of the Arts, and site-specific locations, including a medium security prison with the non-profit organization Rehabilitation Through the Arts.
Internationally she has presented work through the Feldstärke initiative at Centquatre and PACT Zollverein. Currently Whitsitt is producing a new film, THE FIXER, starring James Franco, Melissa Leo and Thomas J. Ryan. Her work has been supported by The Drama League, Orchard Project, The Time Warner Foundation/ Women’s Project Lab, San Francisco Film Society, and Feldstärke International. She is a recipient of the Princess Grace Award.
