Founded in 2009, The Mad Ones are a New York City-based company dedicated to creating visceral, ensemble-driven, highly detailed theatrical experiences that examine and illuminate American nostalgia. The Mad Ones create plays through the ongoing collaboration of performers/writers, designers, and directors, with each artist playing an essential role in a piece’s creation from its inception.
Their productions appropriate popular American genres, playfully re-imagine world history, and incorporate live music in service of a delicately woven, wholly articulated, character-driven universe. The Mad Ones strive to induce, dissect, and elucidate American nostalgia. The Mad Ones’ ensemble-driven methodologies provided the foundation for all the productions in their Performer Trilogy (Samuel & Alasdair: A Personal History of the Robot War, The Tremendous Tremendous, and The Essential Straight & Narrow), as well as their most recent work, Miles for Mary. These productions have received significant accolades and critical praise, including multiple New York Times Critics’ Picks, Five Star Time Out New York reviews, a Drama Desk nomination, and several New York Innovative Theatre Awards. About The Mad Ones, Time Out New York asserted: “...rest assured, you are safe in the hands of some confident new theatrical talents.”
